WOLF'S CALL (A Nick Lupo Novella) by W.D. Gagliani

A notorious Russian mobster known as Vlad “The Impaler” Poschenko has a long history of sadistic murders and assassinations in Chicago. A tough cop with a gripe wants to take him down, but when Martina Pulaski follows a couple hitmen up to Eagle River, Wisconsin, she has no way to predict her unofficial surveillance is about to turn very dangerous indeed.

Fortunately for her, she’s in Nick Lupo’s back yard… and, with his beloved Jessie out of town, he’s bored. When his old friend Martina, now a Detective Sergeant for the CPD, strolls into his local hang-out, he’s more than happy to throw in with her for a little off-the-books recon of the assassins. Unfortunately, when things go bad–very bad!–they are suddenly on the agenda for the assassins, who perform Vlad’s “impaling” of his victims while they are still alive. In a clearing in the woods, it’s obvious the assassins are about to finish off the two rogue cops. But there’s an unexpected twist, and Lupo must decide whether to reveal his greatest secret in order to survive the night… and save them both!

Nick Lupo became a werewolf when he was a teenager, but slowly his lonely world has opened up to include the lovely North Woods reservation doctor Jessie Hawkins. And he had finally begun to shed the results of a terrible condition that brought pain–and even death–to people he loved, when the Wolfpaw mercenaries proved he wasn't the only werewolf... in fact, there are many more of his kind, and some of them have roots that reach back all the way to World War 2 and much, much earlier.

But now that Nick’s vacation has been disrupted by DS Pulaski, he has no choice but to go all-in on the logical outcome of what almost happens to them in the woods. A few days later, on an oligarch’s luxury yacht moored at a Chicago marina, Lupo and Martina spring their new “unofficial” plan. Unfortunately, even here nothing is as it seems, and Lupo is forced once again to skirt the guardrails… and take the law into his own hands. But this time there’s another player, and she’s not playing by the rules either.

WOLF'S CALL is a Nick Lupo novella (33,000 words) by the author of Bram Stoker Award finalist WOLF's TRAP, WOLF'S GAMBIT, WOLF'S BLUFF, WOLF'S EDGE, WOLF'S CUT, WOLF'S BLIND, and the previous novella WOLF’S DEAL. (WOLF'S CALL takes place after the events of WOLF’S CUT.) Available exclusively for the Kindle. Warning: adult content.
