Just when Dona Marian Alvarez believes that war is over and Napoleon's troops are in retreat, she is captured by French officer Guy Dupre. He intends to hold her hostage so that the man he believes to be her lover, the infamous guerrilla leader Felipe Marquez, will attempt to rescue her. It should be easy for Mariana to hate Dupre, whose compatriots have already killed her brother and now threaten the man to whom she is pledged. Instead, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to her captor... It seems that if she is to find happiness Mariana must turn traitor, but which will she betray her country or her heart?
