(2026)(The sixth book in the Nora Blackwell Cozy Mystery series)
A novel by Dianne Harman
When Millbrook's beloved theater matriarch Vivienne Farley passes away, vintage clothing dealer Nora Blackwell is called in to appraise the contents of her carriage house — fifty years of programs, photographs, and props nobody's properly catalogued since Vivienne started keeping them. But it's not a costume that catches her Labrador Gatsby's attention. It's a cedar chest, and the shoebox of unlabeled 8mm film reels hidden inside it, marked simply: Gala — do not discard.
The footage is grainy, fifty years old, and shows something the official story never accounted for: the last known moments of Pamela Lyons, an understudy who vanished the night of the theater's celebrated 1974 reopening and was never seen again. As Nora and her partner, journalist Marcus Webb, start pulling the thread, they find a town that's spent five decades protecting a very convenient story and someone still living who'll do considerably more than send a warning note to keep it buried.
With the theater's fiftieth anniversary gala bearing down like a deadline, Nora has three weeks to give a forgotten woman her name back, keep her own shop and herself safe, and figure out exactly what Marcus has been hiding in that locked desk drawer.
Some secrets aren't sewn into fabric. Some just wait, patiently, for the right person to finally look.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
