A bestselling crime writer. A manuscript full of secrets. And a murder he never saw coming.
Winter has settled over Willowby, bringing frosty mornings, rainy evenings and the town's first Midwinter Festival. With books, baking and plenty of toasted crumpets on the programme, Tamsin Blake is looking forward to a cosy season at the Velvet Scone.
Then bestselling crime author Leonard Ashcombe comes to town.
Leonard is the star attraction at the festival's Crumpets & Crime Evening, but his latest novel has caused quite a stir. His fictional characters bear an uncomfortable resemblance to real people, and more than one guest has reason to resent the secrets he's put on the page.
When Leonard is found dead, fiction suddenly becomes reality.
With his laptop missing and an unfinished manuscript nowhere to be found, Tamsin begins to suspect Leonard was working on something far more dangerous than another mystery novel. Someone in Willowby has spent years protecting the truth about a long-buried death, and Leonard may have been getting dangerously close to exposing it.
Between suspicious authors, old grudges, disappearing notes and Inspector Crumpet's unexpected rise to local celebrity, Tamsin must uncover the story Leonard never got the chance to finish.
Because this time, the final chapter could reveal a killer.
A Crumpet to Die For is a warm and witty New Zealand cozy mystery filled with bookish secrets, café treats, quirky animals, small-town charm and a puzzling murder.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
