Where strangers become friends and friends feel like family

Lara Grey has a successful career and a good life, yet true happiness eludes her. Almost fourteen years ago, on her sixteenth birthday, Lara lost everything. She hasn’t celebrated a birthday since and with her thirtieth birthday looming, Lara needs a distraction.

When she spots a cottage for sale, on the internet, in the seaside village of Bluewater Bay, she makes a rash decision and buys it. The place needs work but it’s a bargain and, once refurbished, she can rent it out. She might even holiday there herself.

Except Lara doesn’t take holidays. Her last was fourteen years ago – with her parents in Bluewater Bay. Which was also the last time she was genuinely happy.

But the cottage needs far more work than she expects. Plus, a stray cat appears to think the place is home, and Lara isn’t good with living things. Something she proves when an elderly neighbour takes a fall and his grandson comes to live with him.

The view from Lara’s cottage may now be even more appealing but Lara knows you can’t judge a book by its cover and a smile isn’t always as friendly as it seems. She believes the only person she can rely on is herself. Although she’s struggling to do everything alone.

Will Lara realise asking for help isn't a weakness? And good things can happen if you open your heart and let people – and animals – into your life.
