Elise: The last time I saw pilot Max Enders he was being escorted off the plane after nearly killing me and three other journalists.
As a travel writer, I’ve spent plenty of time hanging out with pilots. I’ve had deep, meaningful conversations with pilots. I understand the stress. I also know the consequences for flying under the influence.
Max received none of them. There wasn''t a prosecution or even a referral to the authorities. The private jet company took care of things ‘internally.’
Then I see him at the digital detox resort on the company dime, lounging around and being chummy with his colleagues. The injustice cuts me to my core.
Adding injury to insult, he doesn’t even recognize my face. He never bothered to learn who his victims were. And he sure as hell never apologized.
But maybe I can use my anonymity to my advantage. I can make him feel the fear and the trauma he perpetrated against us.

Now the company is giving me a second chance in the cockpit. After our retreat at the digital detox resort, I’ll be eligible to enlist in pilot training and return to what I love.
But I’m not the same man I once was. And Elise, the beautiful woman I meet at the resort, has me doing things and wanting things I’ve never wanted before. I don’t recognize myself when I’m with her.
Yet, I also get this uncanny feeling like I’m becoming the man I’m meant to be.
