A novel by

Mary Porter is as upright as they come, a devout Christian who only seeks to protect those she loves. When she finds herself drawn into a scandal that she cannot avoid without allowing her sister’s life to be ruined, she accepts the punishment given by her strict, religious father.  She’s to leave the home and the people she’s always known and loved, to never return or contact them, ever again!

After losing his wife, Margaret, Captain Robert Tull turned to the sea, vowing to never remarry. Five years he stayed away from England, the pain of his loss and the memories. Now, believing that he’s spent enough time running, he decides to return to the place he once called home and the family he’s always loved. Imagine his shock when he comes to learn that the new scandalous woman in town is not only his best friend’s cousin-in-law but also his goddaughter’s governess!

When his goddaughter, Elisabeth, insists that he must plan her birthday ball alongside Ms. Porter, he realizes they will have to work together—despite his reservations and doubts.

As the birthday ball approaches, the preparations bringing them closer than ever, these two find something more than they’d ever hoped they would—friendship, admiration and most of all, courage to dare to love.

But when disaster looms, and with it, renewed doubts and fears about the truth behind Mary’s scandal, the big question becomes:

Will this fledgling love, newly birthed, be strong enough to soar high above the winds and storms of scandal and evil intent and so be strengthened and survive?
