London 1887 ~ When dubiously acquired American fortunes are exchanged for respectable British titles. Everybody's doing it!
Gilded Age heiress Kate Dellamort swore she'd never marry—until she met Lord Jack Penrowan, a handsome Englishman low on funds but full of fun. Now the honeymoon's over, Jack's always away at his club, and Kate's very proper new relatives are appalled to have a free-spirited American among them.
Then a dead body turns up on the Penrowan estate, and when a detective from Scotland Yard is keen to arrest Lord Jack for the crime, Kate finds herself torn between the need to flee her killer husband and the desire to protect her new family, flawed as they are.
