For the men of the Hunting Bear Clan, joining the tribe's revered brotherhood of Raknari warriors is greatest of honours. An honour for which young Khalvir has striven ever since swearing loyalty to the clan chief, Eldrax.
But to Khalvir, earning his place as a warrior is more than a matter of honour. It is a means to protect his family from all that would do it harm. A purpose for which he has already sacrificed so much.
When drought pushes life to the brink, the Hunting Bear Clan needs as many new Raknari warriors as it can muster to defend the clan’s dwindling resources.
But now the final trial demanded of every Raknari warrior looms before him, Khalvir begins to question whether this test is a sacrifice too costly to make.
As Chief Eldrax intensifies his crazed vendetta against the Sky Gods, and rival clans begin to invade Hunting Bear territory, Khalvir finds his loyalties tested to breaking point.
Will he walk away, betraying the blood oath he swore to Eldrax, or stay and join the ranks of the Raknari, even if it means destroying the last fragments of who he once was?
