My mother whisked me away as a child after my father’s sudden death, and after much too long, I’m returning to the land that was my father’s heritage. Returning to live with my grandmother on the land that will someday be mine. Once I learn how to manage a huge farm on the delta, that is.

But when I arrive, my dreams don’t quite match the reality. For example, who is this much-younger-than-my-grandmother-made-him-sound, very hunky farm manager who seems to think he is boss? And why does this man seem to be practically family to my grandmother, while I feel like someone who’s almost a stranger and just back for a visit?

Yet, I also find myself responding to his southern charm in spite of how irritating I find him. Plus, I think about him much too much when I need to focus on business. I’m back now to reclaim the home I never replaced in all the years I was gone, and I’m really trying to ignore the way Colten’s face keeps popping up when I start planning my future.

Colten

I learned as a child not to trust beautiful women, and if I’ve ever seen a beautiful woman, it’s Sierra Doucet. Much to my surprise, she finally stopped making empty promises to come home to Greenleigh and is finally here in the flesh. Which has her grandmother Celeste beside herself with happiness, but I just seem to be getting more and more nervous.

It's bad enough that Sierra is even more beautiful in person and is surprisingly nice for a former teen model. But within days, she has begun to ask questions about managing the farm, which is my job and my business. Also, this doesn’t sound like a short visit, and she seems to have plans, now that she’s home, to make changes. And yet, Celeste still refuses to tell Sierra that the farm was sold to me years ago.

Now I’m forced to maintain the deception so long as Celeste insists. Which wouldn’t be such a problem if I didn’t find myself much more attached to and protective of the surprisingly lovable Sierra than I ever planned. And I’m losing sleep wondering how upset she’ll be when she finds out her father’s land is now mine. And the more I dream of a happy future with her, the more I see the disaster that’s headed straight for us.

Shattered is a standalone, slow-burn HEA with an oil billionaire who just wants to be a farmer, a successful model who just wants a simple life, and secrets kept to protect others. Can two lovers overcome deception and betrayal that began long before they met?
