A novel by

I am not human.

I am what happens when centuries of engineered DNA is left to evolve in nature. Not what the regime designed. Something else entirely. Seven foot tall. All muscle and instinct.

They call me Born for Fur.
I call myself fauna.

I am the Trade's infection. I don't fight their military; I kill their signals. I'm the ghost in their system. The boundaries they cannot map.

Then I smell her.

A nurse. Human. Small. Carrying something old in her blood that my body recognises before my mind catches up.

I also smell her trauma—and know what was done to her before she says a word.

I went into the regime clinic for a doctor.
I come out with her.

She has no resources, no route back, and me standing between her and every option of escape.

I haunt the regime.
But this human who smells like... mine...
She haunts me.
