"How could you turn a man like Bryan Marwood into a killer?" The flippant question, asked at his farewell party, was to pursue Bryan to his new job, as headmaster of the junior school at Scardale, a remote village in North Yorkshire, where he was also to take over the running of the Scout troop. It seemed like a dream job, with the opportunity to explore God's own country in the company of his old dog Parker. But Bryan's ideal village is not what it seems. It has secrets and it hides them well. As the mystery and horror grows Bryan is about to find the answer to that flippant party question.....
