In this modern-day, British Cinderella story, the spurned stepdaughter returns to the ancestral home, infuriating her stepmother and revealing many surprises, both romantic and criminal.

A contemporary Cinderella story of love, intrigue, and family secrets-set in beautiful rural England When Minty's mother dies in a mysterious car crash, her father is persuaded by his secretary, Lisa, to send her to live with her aunt and uncle. Lisa marries Minty's father and they have a daughter together. The story begins when Minty, now 24, is summoned home by her half sister to help with the family estate. Minty has long dreamed that one day her father would send for her but when she arrives at Eden Hall, she finds him drifting in and out of consciousness from medication for his cancer. Lisa is furious about Minty's presence, but her father's personal assistant knows they need help, so she lets Minty live in one of their holiday cottages and pays her to care for the other cottages on the property. Minty visits her father daily, and as she becomes closer to him, she learns that nothing is as she thought it was, and no one is exactly who she thought them to be. To make things more frightening, a number of attempts are made on Minty's life. Are these merely to scare her away? Or does someone really want her dead?
