Staff Sergeant Hugo Carter had intended to make the Marine Corps his career, but after eight years, loneliness has driven him to join his siblings in northwest Arkansas, where the memory of a certain JoJo Lansing has long haunted him. JoJo is haunted by her own memories, however. Years earlier, she watched her late fiance' vaporize before her eyes on a dusty street in Afghanistan, and the injuries she sustained in the explosion has, she believes, robbed her of a normal life. Enter Hugo Carter, the brother of her band mate, Rey. She's willing to rent him her garage apartment, but then along comes a strange pregnant woman, four of his younger siblings, a rascally dog, and COVID-19. Add a wannabe gang-banger, an elderly neighbor who gets on everyone's last nerve and his dog, and weeks of quarantine. It's not exactly a recipe for romance, and yet Hugo's faith won't let him give up on JoJo. No matter the trials, he's convinced God has it all under control. Now if only JoJo will get with the program.
