When my friend gets left behind during our girls’ night out, I’m the one who’s brave enough to go back to the last club we’d left to find her. Trust me when I tell you, that is a big step for me.
She’s not there, of course, and the literal rock stars who occupy the seats we abandoned are not cooperative. The drummer, though, with ice blue eyes, tattooed knuckles and an insouciant attitude, tells me he saw her, she doesn’t have her phone, and left with his guitar player to find us. He texts his friend, then offers to let me know when he hears back, but I don't know this guy. I don't know if I can trust him.
So I camp at the bar and wait to hear.
Until some girls attach themselves to him and he’s trying to shake them. No one is surprised as I am when he asks for my help.

I didn’t come out tonight to get laid. My band and I are enjoying a night off by listening to local music. The curvy girl who’s come looking for her friend has my full attention, though. As our band has gotten more famous, I’ve noticed people defer to us more and more often, some practically genuflecting as they do so, but not her,
And I find that refreshing.
So when some fans come over and won’t leave until they have my attention, I appeal to Chelsea to pretend to be with me, since she won’t leave my sight until we hear back from Hugh.
Not sure at what point it turns from pretending to more.
