Jamie
The last thing I thought I’d be doing this weekend was crashing a house party with two of my friends.
The last person I thought I’d run into was the man I’d crushed on all through college, Sawyer Decker. He’s a big-shot chef now, with his own chain of restaurants, but I still see the college kid who used to make meals for us in the kitchen of our rented house, the boy who made my twenty-year-old heart flutter.
He still makes my almost-thirty-year-old heart flutter, especially when he singles me out.
I have nothing to offer him. I’m aimless and broke, but for this weekend, he makes me feel like a princess.
Sawyer
I was about to leave this house party and head back to the city when Jamie Engel walks in. I hadn’t realized how much I needed to see her at this point in my life.
She was the first person who believed in me when I said I wanted to be a chef, and she’d always been a willing guinea pig, a willing assistant.
Seeing her now when I’m losing the focus of my career feels like a sign.
Not to mention she’s shed the kid-sister vibe and has grown into a gorgeous woman.
Spending time with her focuses me on what I want from my life.
And one of the things I want is her.
