The Rejected Bride

Left alone after the death of her aunt, Alice Munroe has made a decision. Unable to stay in the house where she lived and take on her aunt’s debts, she will take matters into her own hands and travel west as a mail-order bride. Her aunt taught her many practical skills, and though she is sad to be leaving the only home she’s ever known for a man she has never met, Alice is confident she can make a fine life for herself.

So soon, Alice finds herself arriving on the western frontier, ready to marry one Sam Conners. But it seems plans have changed. Sam has been working on a gold claim, which appears to have failed, and he has decided he is not fit to marry. Alice, however, has nowhere else to go, and she is determined to make this marriage work—even if she is the only one trying.
