Bedtime Stories

(2002)
A collection of stories by

Bedtime Stories is a varied anthology of seven tales, featuring original stories as well as reworkings of classic fables--and all just the right length for reading aloud at bedtime.

The credentials of the contributors are undoubtable. Former Monty Python team member Terry Jones already has several bestselling children's titles to his name, including Fairy Tales and The Saga of Erik the Viking. Actress Nanette Newman has also written books on a variety of subjects, her successful children's titles including Up to the Skies and Good Baby, Bad Baby. Award-winning illustrator Michael Foreman is a long-standing collaborator with Jones, his recent projects including The Knight and the Squire and The Lady and the Squire.

Foreman's lavish, colourful illustrations complement the selection of stories perfectly. Terry Jones's A Fish of the World, a cautionary tale of a conceited herring and his travels around the world, is accompanied by vivid depictions of all the locations, from the vibrant turquoise hues of the Indian Ocean to the darker, more forbidding depths of the South Atlantic. Nanette Newman's There's a Bear in the Bath, a tale of a little girl called Liza and her remarkable bear visitor, is accompanied by warm, lively pictures that capture the chaos that Jam the bear creates in his wake.

Suitable for ages four to eight, Bedtime Stories is a beautifully presented book ideal as a gift and just as likely to be enjoyed by the young at heart as well as the young in age. --Alison Drury
