Running through the successive generations of any family is a thread. So it was with the Greenslades, the Rannaulds and the Moultons. Elizabeth Greenslade, in 1819, was caught up in tragedy, but she did not lose hope that a happy outcome might ensue. Beth Moulton, in 1939, was unaware of this conflicting pattern until she visited the Cambridgeshire countryside and met William Gainsford.
