Absolution

(2014)
(The third book in the Joe Logan series)
A novel by

Logan is off the grid; a modern-day drifter with a bad habit of inadvertently walking into situations that place him in mortal danger.

Discovering a mutilated body on a railroad track Near Madison Bend in southern Arizona, Logan calls in what is obviously a homicide, only to find that the local sheriff seems unconcerned, and is positive that no trace evidence will be found to identify the killer.

Too many bodies are found annually in the arid region near the Mexican border, and the authorities have become a little apathetic, to Logan's way of thinking. He decides to stay in the area for awhile and conduct his own investigation, which subsequently attracts the attention of Zack Slater, a ruthless operator who makes millions through the importation of drugs and the transportation of illegal aliens.

Andrea Corby knows that Slater had her boyfriend, Sam, murdered, and follows the two men responsible to a motel room occupied by Logan, where they are physically restrained by him and one of them is persuaded under extreme duress to admit that Slater ordered the killings of more than one man.

The ensuing events lead to more violence and death, as Logan attempts to keep Andrea and her sister Fran safe from Slater, who is determined to kill anyone he thinks could be a threat to his organization and his continued freedom.
