When I, Sabrina Scott, escape the Flamekind stronghold, I decide to head back home. I’m breaking the year’s contract, I'm not staying in Dragonland a minute longer than I must.
When I try to return – maybe because of that pesky contract – something goes badly wrong. I'm catapulted into in the Shadow Realm – controlled by brooding, inscrutable dragon prince Caedar, who is currently fighting an invasion of wraiths.
Somehow, I’ve switched places with a noblewoman who was traveling to the prince’s court. When the attendants see it’s not her in the carriage, all hell breaks loose. They think I’m a wraith who’s taken over her form. They’re preparing to burn me when Caedar arrives and stops the blaze from going ahead.
When I try to convince Caedar that I ended up here by accident, he says the only way that I could pass through the portal is if I possess the blood of the ancient Shadow Realm heirs. And he needs that heritage to help him win his battle.

I can't escape my new arrangement. I don't know what this service will include, but at least there’s to be no physical contact between me and the dangerously powerful prince.
