Raised on the isolated island of Verascene, Ladisias has been spared the unrest of the mainland and prefers a quiet life of peace. But when a mythological creature appears in the young kingdom of Selvenor, Ladisias’s sense of responsibility as a wielder of magic to protect both man and beast draws him and his father from their safe haven and into the throes of war.

In a brutal attack, Ladisias is severely wounded and taken to a nearby village for care. There, his caretaker, a resilient woman with a personality as fiery as her red hair, discovers his magical lineage. Desperate to save her people, she pleads with Ladisias to defend them from the invaders.

But foreign mercenaries aren’t the only scourge lurking in Selvenor, and Ladisias learns his power suffers the greatest threat of all. Caught between the machinations of more than one power-hungry adversary, Ladisias must navigate his opposition to war, protecting his magic, and his desire to protect the woman who has stolen his heart.

While best enjoyed if read in order, each book in this series can be read as a standalone.
