The Volunteer

A young woman travels to Sudan to teach English in the 1980s in this adventure novella (12,000 words). She feels out of place among the diplomats in expatriate Khartoum, but revels in her regular flights to the Sudanese countryside where she gives classes to a group of impoverished agricultural research scientists and locals. Then she finds out that John Garang, head of the Sudenese People's Liberation Army, is recruiting among the children of the village. Featuring Natalie Joday of the NJ Mysteries.
