Stories of Japan

(2013)
A collection of stories by

This volume collects the first three works by Frances Little (1863-1941), which was the pseudonym for the American author Fannie Caldwell. In the early twentieth century, Little lived in Japan, and her fiction reflects her experiences there. Her debut book and the most successful of her works--it was even a best-seller in America--is "The Lady of the Decoration" (1906). Written in the form of letters, this book follows a young American woman from Hiroshima, where she teaches kindergarten at a missionary school, to Russia, as a result of the Russo-Japanese War. Also included in this volume are "The Lady and Sada San" (1912), the sequel to "The Lady of the Decoration," and the charming "Little Sister Snow" (1909), a love story about a Japanese girl and an American boy.
