Project Phoenix was only the beginning...
Nine months ago, everything went to hell. An injectable medicine touted as humanity’s savior turned one-third of the United States into ravenous monsters whose only vulnerability is fire. They killed more than a half of us, leaving the rest a group of shell-shocked survivors. All we do now is band together in individual communities, working to push back against the lurkershooded, hungry zombie-like creatures that lurk in the dark, eager to take a biteand make it through another day. Resources are scarce, and there’s no one to help us. Our useless government abandoned us all to the creatures all those months ago. Phone and television and the outside world they don’t exist.
Or do they?
Well, it turns out that we’re not as alone as we thought. I learned that after a near miss when I was taken captive by a sect of superhumans who once worked for the government and were given the first dose of the Injection that ruined so many lives. Because that’s what Project Phoenix was meant to dogive humans super speed, super strength, and a make them impervious to danger and illnessbut only that initial batch worked. The one that followed after led to the Turning, and to the carnivorous zombies that are hiding in every shadow.
That’s not all I learned, either. Secrets about me, about Chase Knight, about Maverick Brooks they all came out when we were caught by the Doctor and his cronies in New York, and though we managed to escape with the help of one of the scientists that had worked for the NRI, I can’t escape my pastor the truth.
Doesn’t mean I’m not going to try my best, though. And just because we failed in our mission to blow up the biggest lurker nest on the east coast, that doesn’t mean we’ve given up.
Only now it’s not just lurkers who need to pay. It’s anyone who had a part to play in the end of the world, and if there’s one thing I am sure of, it’s this.
This is war, and we’re going to win''or we're going to burn it all down.
