One day, her father is accused of being involved in shady business dealings and the Sherriff orders his businesses closed and his bank accounts frozen.

Cindy is shocked to find herself alone and broke, so finally decides to become a mail order bride, something she’d always scoffed at.

Gerald: He’s twenty-seven years old, a farmer and lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. His wife died a year ago leaving him with two young children, and he’s finding it hard to look after his children and run his farm.
He is still grieving his wife, but decides to place an ad for a mail order bride to help him. He leaves out the fact that he is a widower with two children.

When Cindy arrives in Nebraska after four grueling months on the wagon train, she is shocked to find out that Gerald is a widower with two young children. She’s furious that he neglected to mention that aspect of his life but still goes ahead with the wedding as she has nowhere else to run to.
