Stories on Loss and Living On
A collection of stories by

Novelist and mother-of-three, Malena Lott, takes on the topic of loss and living on in this collection featuring four short stories and two essays on grief and finding hope after a loved one dies.

In "The New Year's Box," we find a couple unhinged by another loss at the time of year when most people are planning resolutions and hoping for a brighter, happier new year.

"The Happy Place" begins at a funeral as a mother recounts memories of her only child and then leaves to find solace at the shore as she contemplates where to go next.

In "Pockets of Hope," a 24-four-year-old man sets out on a blustery October day letting himself feel his feelings on a journey of familiar stops he had taken with his first love as he comes to terms with life after.

Lott includes her short story, "Snowflakes and Stones," first published in the short story collection, "Sleigh Ride," about a mother returning home at the holidays after a terrible loss has split her world in half, yet searches for something solid to hold onto.

The essay, "On Mother Loss and Being a Motherless Mother," examines how the author's loss of her mother from separation when she was 4 and then a second mother loss when her grandmother who raised her died when the author was 19 impacted her own approach to life and mothering her three children.

In "Grief, Guns and Grace," Lott look at the loss of three "Drews" to gun deaths in her life, beginning when she was in 7th grade and ending with a friend's murder and how grace can call us to transform our hearts and society.

Anyone who has lost someone precious to them, whether by miscarriage, an accident, violence or natural death, will relate to Lott's look at grief through the lens of living life fully and in the present moment.
------------
This edition also includes the first three chapters of Lott's fourth novel, SOMETHING NEW, about a family mystery on the cusp of a divorce, a luxury wedding and the revival of the Princess and the Pauper.
