A what-the-hell-next novel set in an anachronistic American county whose residents seem out to frustrate, rob, beat up, or have wall-climbing sex with a young man on a mission he doesn't want. This is not a religious book.
Irish by birth, with a powerful American media mogul father, impoverished 23 year old philosophy graduate Samson O’Christ lives above a joke shop in Cambridge, England, with no idea that his very uneventful life is about to fly out of the window, and he with it, propelled by a bomb going off under his bed. Next thing he knows four weeks later as he comes out of a coma he’s in Washington DC being given a mission to travel across country (in a wheelchair and neck brace) to a backwater town called Nothing Much to pay off the blackmailing mother of the half-brother he didn’t know he had until now. Some way into his journey, Samson finds that he can get by without the wheelchair and neck brace and ditches them in favor of a bus, but he sleeps through his stop, and in so doing sets in motion a series of events unlike any of his previous experience. Disastrous, life-changing events.
Michael Lawrence is the author of around 50 books of various kinds, published internationally, translated into numerous languages. One was the inspiration for five television series. Several others have won awards or been shortlisted for awards.
