A novel by

Even before she met dashing Dr "Red" Stacy, Helen Newsome had decided she no longer wished to marry her father's business associate, Royden Downey. However, Helen's parents, conscious of their parvenu status in the Melbourne society of 1892, insisted that the marriage should go ahead. Meanwhile, Royden Downey was shocked to discover that the girl on a newly completed mural in the Newsome mansion, "Asgard", was his erstwhile mistress. The painted girl was to play a sinister part in the tragic events which changed forever the lives of those who dwelt at "Asgard".
