The Redshaws

(1974)
A novel by

1860s: Spinsterhood seems a firmly settled way of life for Harriet Redshaw, until she comes to keep house for her brother, Peter, at his tiny Australian pioneering homestead of Lambing Flat. She has hardly settled in before Thomas Newstead, a prosperous landowner living nearby, makes her a proposal of marriage. There is no reason at all why Harriet should not accept Thomas, but a chance encounter with the enigmatic Larry Todd has filled her with hitherto unfelt emotions.
