The Power Of The Bug

(1974)
(The fifth book in the Jennifer Norrington series)
A novel by

David Cordle, a friend of Colly (Coleridge Tucker Iii), has supposedly fallen off a cliff in Vermont, but the death is viewed as suspicious, although possibly suicide. Colly decides to investigate and is immediately targeted in a ruthless attempt to murder him, and an innocent man dies. It soon becomes clear that Colly's friends and co-investigators, Count Sandro di Ganzarello and Lady Jennifer Norrington have also become the quarry of a gang of assassins who wish to eliminate anyone interested in Cordle's death. The three narrowly escape on many occasions, dodging bullets and even a lynch mob, as they move through the Us and into Mexico pursued by the unknown gang, who appear to be able to find them wherever they hide. Just what is behind it all, and why should they be the targets now?
