Small town drama belongs in the gossip column. This one ends up in my bookshop like a bookmark I cannot pull out. My clue-sniffing schnauzer and I get stuck following bones that do not belong on any shelf.

I keep my days simple with fresh shipments, quiet customers, and mysteries that stay on the page. Lucy keeps hers sweet with cupcakes, coffee, and the kind of chatter that never cools. One couple’s fights become local entertainment, and their threats sound almost funny until someone goes missing. All he leaves behind is a plastic bag of bones and a trail of whispers. Town lore starts strutting around like it owns the place. Another man disappeared years ago, and the story still sticks to everyone’s teeth. As soon as the missing man turns up, a real skeleton turns up too. Now every neighbor has a theory, and every theory has teeth marks. My schnauzer keeps nosing the truth while Lucy collects secrets like sprinkles.

The crumbs keep leading to the same oven, and the heat keeps rising. In this town, the past never stays buried, and neither do the bones.
