The world is once again in chaos. For the second time in ten years a meteorite strikes the earth. The skies are once again filled with a dirty brown dust which largely blocks out the sun and sends the earth into a deep freeze.
Millions are giving up and committing suicide.
The tougher among them are struggling to survive.
Outside of Junction, Texas, Mark and Hannah Snyder go to ground in their abandoned salt mine. Before the roads become impassable beneath several inches of snow and ice they scramble to gather provisions and supplies.
Then one of their own goes missing.
Frank Woodard is the last one anyone would suspect of being carjacked. As a former Marine and police officer he was the toughest among them. But he’d let his guard down to help two men stranded on a frozen highway.
And they took him hostage and forced him to drive them north to Plainview.
Frank is now critically wounded.
The search has been called off.
And in nearby San Antonio a bunker, built by Washington politicians to protect their own, is breached.
As the base populace looks on the bunker’s occupants are forced out into the cold. The onlookers are outraged that Washington elites are protecting their loved ones while they and their own families are desperate to survive. They want vengeance and cheer as those in the bunker are placed into handcuffs.
Then, before their very eyes, the cuffs are removed and placed instead upon their base commander: the man who ordered the bunker breached.
And none of the crowd can imagine the twists and turns which await them in the weeks and months ahead.
