Harry leads a busy life. He’s Head of the local Cheadle Academy. He’s surrounded by good friends and every Friday night he rocks the house at his friend Tina’s bar, TJs, joining the resident band ‘The Valley Men’ to perform songs by his beloved Stevie Nicks. And he draws quite a crowd. But Harry has not been feeling well lately. And it scares him.
Then there’s Owen. Owen is more than half his age and works as a Barista in his local coffee shop. He’s enigmatic, moody, abrasive, ignorant, downright rude. He treats Harry like dirt and throws every kindness Harry shows him back in his face. But Harry can’t help having feelings for Owen. And he can’t help feeling there’s a reason for Owen being in his life.
When Harry receives his diagnosis, it isn’t good news. But he soon learns that Owen needs him more than Harry could ever have imagined. He needs to escape from his violently homophobic father and Harry moves him into his house. But Harry’s health is deteriorating and there’s one more thing he has to do for Owen before he can say his work is done. He has to ensure that Owen will be happy once Harry has gone.
But when Owen’s father turns up at Harry’s house and confesses his own dark secrets to him, the secrets that have led to him being such a violent man, Harry learns that doing his work, however well intentioned, can lead to unforeseen and desperate consequences.
