Fortunes of Steel
(2026)(The third book in the Riversteel series)
A novel by Debra L Martin and David W Small
What happens to a mind that experiences a catastrophic loss so profound that it dwells in perpetual darkness?
Captain Dillon Gaire, an elite scout and mage in the army of the Riversteel Kingdom, is no stranger to death. He always knew the dangers of serving in the army and justified any loss of life as part of the job. That all changed when his unborn daughter was murdered by the rogue elf Cyran from the Kingdom of Mytheland. No justification could excuse the evil act, and the loss would never be forgotten or forgiven.
When neither the Riversteel king nor the Mytheland king deigned to help him in his quest for revenge, Dillon sets off with his cadre of friends and his beloved wife, Lyla, to pursue the killer who nearly destroyed his family. His hunt leads him to a dark world of underground warrens where he comes face-to-face with an evil beyond reckoning. An ancient evil held secret by the elves for countless ages that could spell their downfall.
Now Dillon must make his choice. Continue hunting his vile adversary, knowing the danger he is putting his group in, or give up his quest for revenge and live with his failure to right the wrong perpetrated on his family. It’s the most important decision of his life. Does he have the magical power to overcome the challenges set before him?
Will he choose might over right or subscribe to a higher morality?
