The fighting is winding down on the beaches of Guadalcanal, but the enemy is gathering its forces for a might counterstrike.
America must complete the airstrip on the island to fly in much needs supplies and reinforcements. The Japanese have left the construction site in chaos, and the military sends in civilian construction engineers, experts, to get the project finished in time to counter the expected hammer blow. Disaster strikes when their C-47 is shot down by a wandering Jap Zero, and they crash land on the nearby island of Tulagi.

Even worse, Second platoon has another battle to fight, Against the platoon commander, an Ivy League socialite more skilled at mixing martinis than leading men into battle.
