Evan McMurphy is the son of a US Navy SEAL. The same as his three best buddies. Their fathers are often called away at short notice and are absent for long periods, which makes life kinda tough.

They have something else in common. Outside school, a bunch of sneering bullies doing their best to make their lives miserable. They usually succeed. Inside school, dumbhead teachers who seem to compete with each other to make their monotonous lessons as boring as possible. Things should be better for Evan when he gets home. They aren’t. His mom is on a mission to drink the local liquor store dry.

When their fathers have been away for longer than usual, they get worried. And they’re even more worried when the network news posts a story about four Navy SEALs incarcerated in a prison in Kabul, Afghanistan. They have been condemned to death on some trumped-up charge. The State Department is unable to negotiate their release. And the Pentagon is unwilling to attempt a rescue.

After hearing too much crap and too many excuses, they realize they have a single option. Forget the adults, forget the politicians. They either go there and get them out or their fathers will die. All they have to rely on is their wits, their courage, and their determination to free their fathers. First, they must stow away on a flight to Kabul. When they get there, grab some guns, and bust into the prison to free them. Easy. No, wait a minute. They’d be going up against the Taliban. Screw ‘em.

‘The Mavericks – Sons of the Navy SEALs’ is the first novella in a new, exciting Young Adult series. The book is a collaboration between Todd McLeod and Eric Meyer, the bestselling author of more than fifty war novels.
