(2025)
(Book 17 in the Thrice Named Man series)
A novel by

The year is 273 AD. Within a few short years, the Empire crushed the barbarian hordes that poured across the Danube and brought the East back into the fold. Only Gaul and the errant Western provinces remain outside Rome’s sphere of influence.
But there's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip…
It will take a man with iron in his veins to set things right and accomplish the impossible.
From a humble upbringing, a boy emerges who is destined to change history.
This is the story of Lucius Domitius Aurelianus.

Part XVII: Warrior

With the East reincorporated into the Empire, Aurelian turns his attention to the errant provinces on the far side of the Alps. Unlike the savage enemies of Rome who had been mercilessly slaughtered, the emperor views the errant western provinces in the same way a father regards a prodigal son.
But Vitruvia, the Druid priestess who serves Lug, the Dark One, is anything but a repentant child. Employing guile and deceit, she strikes first at that which the emperor holds dear.
When his depleted legions eventually return from the East, Eochar the Merciless leads his army across the passes, not to bring errant provinces into the fold, but to settle a debt that can only be repaid in blood.
