Jonah, a ghost living in an abandoned tuberculosis sanatorium, has spent the past 70 years of his death scribing the life stories of countless ghosts. Finally, in The Book of Jonah, he scribes his own story, taking us back to the first half of the 20th century. The son of a heartbroken man, Jonah is raised inside The Baroque, a whorehouse and saloon where his father works as a piano player. Born with Marfan syndrome, the awkward and silent Jonah has two loves in his life: painting and the blind girl who lives next door, Lizzie. Seduced by a demon named Valentina one night inside The Baroque, Jonah finds that his painting talents soar while his relationship with Lizzie falls apart. As Valentina attempts to lure him further into her thrall, Jonah resists the temptations, until he's presented with an opportunity that will save Lizzie from her worsening circumstances, even if it means losing her forever.
