Jillian had searched through the entire huge house. With Christmas right around the corner, she’d realized something was missing. Even after searching through the entire house, she still had a feeling the missing heirlooms were here somewhere.
The only place she hadn’t looked was the basement and she wasn’t thrilled with the idea of going down there on her own.
Nic couldn’t quite put his finger on why he wanted to spend every waking moment with Jillian. But wherever she was, it was where he wanted to be.
Normally they spent their days searching through old journals at the township’s small library or the equally small archives at one of the local churches. Wandering around and exploring the dark and musty basement of Amanda’s huge house with her was turning out to be almost as interesting.
He isn’t surprised when it appears as if no one has been down there for years though he didn’t think it has anything to do with the creepy factor that kept Jillian from coming here on her own. He’s definitely intrigued when they find a couple of old heating systems, including an antiquated steam heater that probably kept the old house passably warm a couple hundred years ago.
But the old heating systems aren’t the only thing they find during their explorations.
