A novel by

I lose my father on the same day I forfeit my freedom. Eldest of 9 children in 1895, the death of my father affected each of us differently. Always independent and capable, I put aside my dreams of a college education in favor of holding the tattered remains of our family together in the face of such devastating loss. Working two or three jobs, I battle with my mother over money and responsibility for years.
A series of betrayals by the very family I am trying to support, I realize they would sooner see me in an early grave next to Daddy, then accept responsibility. I leave them behind, determined to finally live on my own terms. I build a life for myself, make lasting connections with dear friends, and prosper in a world that does not look favorably upon women.
I am introduced to a friend of a friend and my world tilts once more. Emil is charming, handsome, funny, and warm. He is also wealthy, Jewish, and an accomplished lawyer and businessman. Society would dictate he has nothing in common with an Irish Catholic housekeeper.
Will we bow to the expectations of others, or will we love
