You are the sum of your experiences. Every tear, every smile, every broken bone, every triumph. And sometimes you are put in untenable situations that change you down to the marrow of those broken bones. To survive, I had to leave them behind, I had to leave her behind and for over 4,000 days the guilt of that decision weighed on me until I tried to absolve my sins through sinful means.

Doubt and guilt hold no place in survival. You do what you have to do in order to keep moving. Sometimes the heinous acts of others are the catalyst you need to stop bending to their will and finally break free. At a time when the three of us should be counting toes, and changing diapers, and blowing raspberries on pudgy little baby bellies, Sibyl and I are trying to balance parenthood and save Vesta from herself. Nothing goes to plan but everything goes to sh*t. I was in the U.S. Army for years, but none of that prepares me for the most epic battle I will ever face. We're not engaging an enemy combatant on foreign soil...We're fighting like hell to find our Vesta buried under post-partum depression, PTSD, and a physically traumatic delivery to make sure our beautiful babies have their mama and Sibyl and I don't lose our soul.
