During the summer of 1777, newlywed Sibella Swallow faces an impossible choice on the New York frontier: flee through dangerous country to seek safety at Colonel Campbell's fortress, or await her husband's return from the militia''s march to relieve besieged Fort Stanwix. When she hesitates too long, enemy forces surround her isolated homestead, trapping her and a thirteen-year-old bound girl with no certain escape route and no weapons. As British soldiers, Tory raiders, and Native warriors close in, Sibella must rely solely on her wits and courage to protect herself and the girl. With her husband's fate unknown and time running out, her survival requires more than waiting to be rescued. It demands taking a stand.
