In 1600s France, during the height of the witchcraft trials, the arch-demon Lilith---female, but with a vicious hatred of women---comes secretly to earth and joins the persecutions. But her real reason isn’t to war against witches. It’s because women are gaining power to improve human life. She intends to stop that and plunge the world back to the ignorance and barbarity of the Dark Ages.
She commands malicious imp-like spirits called Divs that help her frame innocent victims, and she enlists a bitter incel judge to be her front man. Along with a fanatical army of human followers, they launch a campaign of terror based on lies and burnings at the stake, threatening to sweep across all of Europe.
But an unlikely few---bookish Lady Oliver, stubborn teen Emelde who has an untrustworthy spirt guide, and naive but willing Garon---get caught up in the hidden battle against the true evil.
Beneath the surface, this story is really about the rise of a would-be dictator who persecutes innocent victims to gain power. Eerily relevant to these times.
