A Cat Called Grievous
(2018)(A book in the Electric Literature's Recommended Reading series)
A Story by R L Maizes
Here, in R. L. Maizes’s ‘A Cat Called Grievous,’ we find a familiar situation: a couple, unable to have children and growing bored with one another, adopt a cat and name it Grievous. Or, the cat adopts them, as it so often goes. People are fond of saying that ‘dogs have masters and cats have servants,’ a statement that is mostly true, and, I will argue at the risk of revealing myself as a cat person, makes cats richer subjects for fiction. Dogs are loyal, and cats are indifferent. Give a cat an owner, and there is already a conflict. - Halimah Marcus
