A woman has vanished. A watchtower bell rings with no one at the rope. And the village’s harmless midwinter customs—lanterns for the lost, offerings at old stones, half-forgotten songs—begin to look a lot less like superstition.
When a grieving child tries to use one of those traditions to bring his mother home, he disturbs something no one in the village truly understands.
Kadaris may be the only one willing to believe the old customs once held real magic. To set things right, she’ll have to piece together what generations have forgotten before the longest night is over.
Because if she fails, one lost woman may never find her way home—and something else may find its way back instead.
