I used to think my job was saving a mission.
Then I found the files.
Joseph Freeman says he’s trying to protect the work his parents died for. I believe him. I also believe the girls in those marriage contracts—Amina, Yasmin, and the others—matter more than permits, money, and everyone’s carefully managed excuses. The problem is, once you pull one thread, the whole system starts to unravel.
Now the government is closing in, the mission is losing its funding, and the people who built their power on silence are making threats they intend to keep. Joseph wants to fight. I want to fight. But the price of telling the truth may be higher than either of us can afford.
