Ace Baxter - A Day in the Life

Hello. Ace Baxter, private investigator here. You want to know about my day? I spend most of my time with Max, a big, golden pup of undetermined breeding who goes everywhere with me. He has some interesting little quirks of his own, so we make a good pair. My day starts off fairly early with a morning run. Some military training just can't be unlearned. After that, it's breakfast (Max and I love bacon) and then, if I'm not working on a case, I'm working on this big old house, Blackthorn Manor. I've managed to get the inside in pretty good shape so I've started on my next project, an outdoor kitchen. Max and I spend a lot of time out here anyway, so might as well spruce it up.
Family? My mother passed away while I was in the Army tracking down bad guys. My father? I'd rather not talk about him, if you don't mind. The one member of my family I talk to on a regular basis is my sister, Dr. Lillith Baxter, psychiatrist. She will tell you that I bought the Blackthorn mansion and moved to Mossy Creek, Georgia to escape some not so nice things from my past. I thought I just needed a break from, well, everything. She knows nothing about my ghost problem and if she did, she'd have me committed and chalk it all up to PTSD. I'm determined to keep that little secret from her.
Wait. What? Oh, you really want to know about the ghosts? Until I moved to Mossy Creek, I would have told you that ghosts, spirits, specters don't exist. I'm still not sure they do but I can tell you that the original owners of this property are fighting to hang onto it tooth and nail, even though they're definitely dead. First, there's Grandpa Hiram, who still thinks he's fighting the Civil War. To him, I'm the enemy and a trespasser. He's easy enough to dodge for the most part. Then there are the sisters, Annabelle and Essie Blackthorn. Not only do they insist on meddling in my investigations, they continue to try to interfere with other parts of my life as well. They have a brother, Granger Blackthorn who was murdered tragically decades ago. The family promised me that if I solved his murder they would go away, cross over or whatever you call it. They're still here. You can read about that in Southern Secrets.
As it turns out, Mossy Creek isn't the quiet little southern town I imagined it would be. There are murder mysteries to be solved and more ghosts roaming the area than you can even imagine. Whatever happens, Max and I will deal with it. He's a good doggy, and he makes a great ghost buster, too.
