The annual charity town duck race is coming up soon and Tabor, the well known Brackton canine detective, is determined one of his six little yellow plastic ducks will win. However, when Admiral Nelson, his most experienced little yellow plastic duck, finds the dead body of the detested town librarian, Patricia Polly Perkins of Paddington Place, in the river on their practice run, things take a turn for the worse.

Susie and Tabor are instantly suspects owing to their various 'run-ins' with the deceased. Mind you, they aren't alone. The librarian may have been killed by any one of several other Bracktoons and Susie and Tabor have their job cut out trying to tease out the heap of motives for her murder.

Visits to the Reverend Bothcherby's church crochet club; the crotchety, elderly winner of the best front garden flower display, the supposed haunted house of one of the local firemen and to Parchment's garage (where Susie's car is sabotaged), all uncover clues to the death of Patricia Polly Perkins of Paddington Place. But are any of them actually useful?

Aided and abetted as usual by Tabor's coterie of canine co-conspiritors, and Patrick the cockatoo,Tabor attempts to unravel the truth about the seriously unpopular village librarian's demise.

Accompany our two detectives on the hilarious route march through grave-robbing, a disastrous cricket match and the use of Susie's terrible, gooey gravy, to find out the culprit.
