Professor Yuri Vladishkin is involved in excavations near the Dead Sea, in his capacity as one of the world’s most renowned archaeologists. While working there, he befriends one Moshe Yaresz, a retired Mossad analyst, in one of Jerusalem’s many cafes. Yuri purchases a tubular portfolio case in old Jerusalem, containing a number of papyri scrolls and a roll of film. The seller tells him they are Dead Sea scrolls, but given the modern case, he discounts this. Back in his hotel room, he opens the case and finds a letter written in Hebrew, plus two scrolls. They are written in Aramaic, a script he is unfamiliar with. The Hebrew letter, he can read and the contents scare him immensely. His first thought is to destroy everything! He feels that would be the only way to prevent a cultural revolution. Something holds him back and he knows he cannot do it. He posts the scrolls to himself at his university in Moscow.
The next day he is chased and caught up with at the Wailing Wall, by three ominous strangers. A soldier on patrol interferes and, following heated discussion, he manages to escape their clutches. He runs to Moshe’s house to hide, but does not tell him what has happened. He hopes to gain time. His flight home is tomorrow already and he’s counting on that. His pursuers, however, are too clever for him.
Taken-aback by the surprise visit from his uncharacteristically flustered friend Yuri, Moshe decides to check things out. The professor seems to have vanished from the face of the earth. From that point on, the former Mossad analyst leaves no stone unturned in his mission to find his friend.

Ilse De Weerdt is a Dutch student, travelling alone in Jerusalem. On the square at the Wailing Wall, she picks up a discarded roll of film and puts it in her bag, taking it home with her to Amsterdam. Shortly after, she marries the love of her life, Nathalie Van Alphen. She has totally forgotten the roll of film but upon return from their honeymoon, that very roll of film is instrumental in turning her life, and that of her partner Nathalie, into a nightmare. They’ve been broken into and Nathalie herself is thereafter kidnapped by criminals unknown. It’s a race against the clock to free her.

When a woman is found tortured to death in Amsterdam, Chief Inspector Hans Buurman’s main aim is to find her killer. The woman has not the least connection to the underworld so it is a complete mystery why she has been murdered so cruelly. It soon transpires that this case is more unusual than anyone could have imagined, but however hard he tries, the unsubtle Hans Buurman just cannot figure it out.

German priest Josef Schwartzstein is member of a special order. Confidant to Bishop Meideros of The Vatican, charged with the study of all and everything to do with Church Doctrine, especially anything that could in any way, shape or form, damage the Mother Church. He is informed via his network, of scrolls that were found near the Dead Sea which, via photos taken of these same scrolls, could indeed cause damage to the Church. Josef has been ordered to do everything possible to retrieve these scrolls, the film roll and any prints.

The thriller, One Woman Crusade (original Dutch title, De Zaak) carries the reader from Israel, to The Netherlands, Russia and the Balkans. The Vatican does its absolute utmost to get possession of the papyrus scrolls, negatives and prints.
